Q: Is Rhinoplasty performed on an out-patient basis?
A: Rhinoplasty is usually performed under local or general anesthesia in an out-patient setting. First, an incision is made inside the nose and the bone and cartilage framework is then shaped and sculpted as desired. Sometimes it is necessary to make a small incision on the outside of the nose depending on the nature of the surgery. The skin is then re-draped over the new framework and a splint is applied to help your nose maintain its new form.
There are also cases in which splints may be inserted in the nostrils to provide additional stability.
